Lee County Fair
For good, old-fashioned family fun, don't miss the Lee County Fair, held each July in
Donnellson, Iowa. This year the fair runs from July 5 - 10th.
The fair has the honor of being Iowa's Oldest County Fair and offers a variety of
activities and entertainment for the entire family.
The fairgrounds are easy to navigate and it is only a short walk between all of the
fair buildings and events.
Throughout fair week visitors can enjoy the many Livestock Shows in the livestock barns.
The 4-H and FFA clubs present their projects and bring in cows, pigs, sheep, rabbits,
geese, goats and small pets. There are plenty of open-class shows to participate in such
as the horse show, open beef show and open sheep show.
The Art Hall is always full of 4-H exhibits and art work. Plus it showcases needlework, food
and craft projects by locals through the open -class divisions.
A stroll around the grounds will bring you to Pioneer Village featuring Viele Schoolhouse,
Old Time General Store, Farmer Bill's Barn, and The Ernie Rotter Barn Museum featuring
past fair memorabilia.
While you are at the fair stop in the Youth Learning Center which features a number of
activities and food throughout the week.
Take a walk thru the Midway featuring Kenny's Funland Carnival.
Open Thursday 4p, Friday 1p Armband Day, and Saturday 1pm Armband Day.
The Fair also feature's Senior Day on Thursday, July 6th 1p-5p and
Kid's Day on Friday, July 7th 1p-5p
Lee County Farm Bureau Day, Saturday July 8th 10am-6pm
Then there's the Grandstand, featuring the best food of the fair in the
Blue Ribbon Diner and home to the main grandstand events evening. These events
include: Horse and Mule Cart Races, Illinois Farm Association Pulls, Races,
Kid's Power Wheel Derby and Local Demo Derby.
Also, alongside the Grandstand is the Entertainment Tent & Beer Garden.
Showcasing Friday night is Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters, and
Saturday night Madd Hoss Jackson. This is the place to party the night away.
